Glaziou and the roots of landscaping in Brazil

A high-quality informative and graphic work about Auguste Glaziou, an important figure in the history of landscaping and botany in Brazil. Glaziou arrived in Rio de Janeiro in 1858 and, over the course of four decades, designed important public and private gardens, standing out as a collaborator of the Emperor. In Rio de Janeiro, the best-known gardens he designed or renovated are the Passeio Público, Campo de Santana and Quinta da Boa Vista. Glaziou also contributed to botanical science by collecting and cataloging thousands of species of Brazilian flora, and he valued the introduction of species native to the country in his designs. His work inspired a legion of disciples in the art of landscaping, including Burle Marx. In the photographic essay presented in the second part of the book, the reader has the opportunity to stroll through Glaziou's gardens and become familiar with his work.
