A caiçara girl gets close to the “matis” (orcas) of Ilha Grande Bay and becomes their friend. As well as providing information about ecology, the story deals with the imminent disappearance of a traditional Brazilian culture which, over the centuries, has learned to live in harmony with nature. The poetic narrative, illustrated with photographs by the author and colorful drawings by Graça Lima, captivates the reader, making them reflect on what kind of “progress” we are seeking for our country. At the end of the book, the author provides important information about the history of the occupation of Ilha Grande Bay, its main ecosystems and everything that science has discovered about orcas.
